Cash cow (BCG)

A product line or business unit with high relative market share in a low-growth market in the BCG Matrix.

Simple example

In the example, filter coffee is a cash cow with 4% market growth and a relative share of 2.0.

Why does it matter?

It may generate surplus cash after necessary investment to support other businesses. Its quality and position still need protection.
