Leadership and Communication

COIN model

A four-step model that structures feedback around Context, Observation, Impact and Next steps. It helps make the issue specific and clarify what should happen next.

Simple example

“Yesterday’s report, which we agreed was due at 3 p.m., arrived at 5:30. We couldn’t use the figures in the meeting. What happened on your side? How could we flag a possible delay earlier next time?”

Why does it matter?

It helps you prepare what to say and in what order during a difficult conversation. It also supports agreeing on a next step after hearing the other person’s perspective.
